Last week I hacked a popular secular song (Will the Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up/ Will the Real Jesus Christ Please Stand Up) to get my point across and now I do it again with the song that made Shannon Noll famous – What About Me.

What about me, it isn’t fair
I’ve had enough now i want my share
Can’t you see i wanna live
But you just take more than you give

And now i’m standing on the corner all the world’s gone home
Nobody’s changed, nobody’s been saved
And i’m feeling cold and alone
I guess i’m lucky, i smile a lot
But sometimes i wish for more than i’ve got

These lyrics are exactly what people are going on about in todays world. All we sing about is ourselves. What happened to dieing to your self and living for God?

Do we sing about Jesus anymore?

I have been in church for most of my life (20+ years – that makes me feel old), so I have sung in a lot of Sunday services and the common thread I have seen in today’s music is the diminishing name of Jesus.

Maybe its because I am a male but I like strong powerful music that stirs you, causes you to cry through conviction and has words that drip in the spirit of the Holy Ghost. Songs like Amazing Grace, Holy Holy, Awesome God, Healer and the list goes on.

You know I almost dread worship in today’s church  Instead of weeping through conviction, I weep because of boredom and the lack of the Holy Spirit that moves people.

Other peoples opinions about todays Worship/ Gospel Music

In previous posts (How the Church has failed men & When Worship becomes more than Worshiping God) a lot of the comments have been made about the state of todays worship music.

Some of our songs are hopeless for men eg Darling of heaven – I am never singing that!

One of my biggest ‘issues’ with the church world is the music of today. Yesterdays worship music was all about God, the Blood, Jesus, the Holy Spirit etc but todays? Its all about me, I, we etc..

I agree that the content of the songs should be Christian based, this does NOT mean that every song has to have the name “Jesus” or “God” or the word “Christian” in the actual lyrics. But being themed in songs to or about Christ and our relationship with Him is strongly strongly encouraged.

Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who thinks that is about time we go back to singing about the reason why we are in church on a Sunday and that is about Jesus, the person who we have a relationship with. The reason why we will see eternal life?
