We all know about Mike Guglielmucci’s recent fall from grace and his addiction to porn but I want to discuss the movement of Christian pop stars and why I believe it is dangerous.

I am not against Christians being popular in today’s secular and or spiritual worlds but worshiped like pop stars? We do NOT need Christians who just draw crowds but rather peoples lives changed.

We are JUST mere men

Several young men and women were really distressed when Mike Guglielmucci was exposed and the way they carried on, it was like Jesus himself was exposed as being a fake and fraud. Mike is a man, a man who like us makes mistakes, screws up and has weaknesses, we must NOT forget that!

God also does not need their success for him to succeed, God has already won the battle and we are just a part (not the whole part) of his plan.

Addicted to the limelight

The question becomes, “How far will some ministry leaders go to stay in the limelight?”….. What happens when pastors and ministry leaders get addicted to the attention? Phil Cooke

I think the limelight is the one main reason why people continue to lie and fabricate stories so they can stay there. Accountability is imo the answer, Ross Clifford talks about it on his response to Mike Guglielmucci’s fall.

I remember hearing about a singer from a popular Christian band and the band moved the singer on as he was not living the Christian life. This is imo how it should happen, the band was accountable to each other and the singer was struggling and his life and salvation was more important than the band.

Do you have any input about this Christian pop star movement were we seem to worship the celebrity more than God behind him?

I think too many times people look to the wrong people for inspiration. Rather than looking at a godly christian they look at someone they like in the world. they also judge someones success on how ‘famous’.

Its hard to watch a dying generation of young christians selling out the ‘promise’ of fame – when most will go no where but rather than wasting their talents in pubs and clubs they could have been doing something for the glory of God.

You raise some very good points Ariana.

The way people look and worship ‘Christian’ performers like Guy Sabstain and
Mike Guglielmucci etc is almost embarrassing. Why do they not look at consistent Christian preachers, performers who have a long standing testimony and above reproach (1 Timothy 3:7-10) like Billy Graham etc

He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

Is it because they are not cool enough that they do not have tats or piercings or show off enough leg and body?

A Christian leader who influences (young) Christians like these people (cool or not cool) should NOT be part of the world were you look and act just like everyone else (John 17:11, 14-19).

Good point bro!

The flesh loves the limelight, and delights in glorified attention. This is a real tragedy, and I believe that Satan even works to bring apparent ‘Christians’ into the public eye, and then after people have confidence in them, He brings their sin to light.

We should be careful in how we view ‘Christian leaders’.

Thanks for your comment Armen.

I do think that yes Satan ‘hides’ or glosses over the sin and helps them be popular but I also think that even with people who have sin, God can still use them.

Mike Guglielmucci is a good example were God continue to use his ‘Healer song’ even though he was in sin when he wrote it.

I think humility is an important factor that keeps people fleshly desires of limelight etc down. I also think that a lot of churches fast track people into the spotlight and that is dangerous as they are not ready.

We should be careful in how we view ‘Christian leaders’.

This imo comes down to spiritual immaturity were we look at man or these ‘powerful’ Christian leaders for salvation instead of a personal relationship with God.
