To steve above I would have to diagree with your statment that Moses didn’t see God. In the scripture when ever you read LORD with all capital letters that is a translation of God’s name in the hebrew Yĕhovah. So in a nut shell in exodus 35:5 says ” then the LORD came down…” could be translated as “then GOD came down…”. Just out of curiosity steve where in the NT did you read an angel gave moses the law?

Moses did not see God as Jesus said no man has ever seen the Father and also the new testament tells us that it was an Angel of God on the mountain and that the law was given by angels.The veil was symbolic of the hidden truth in the books of Moses which to many are still hidden today.

His face shone because he was in the presence of God,not because he had a relationship with God.He had a relationship with GOD,but that was not why his face shine,the presence of God caused that.Nice blog ,I enjoy it.

Yes I do think I did mis-understood the term ‘personal’ a bit.

So you are saying that because he saw God personally face to face it caused him to be as bright as the sun?

When you talk about people having a relationship with God through their pastor or scriptures etc that is why God died and ripped the veil at the temple. He did NOT want that anymore…

I disagree. Lots of people in the OT had a personal relationship with God. I think you misunderstand the word “personal.” It’s not a theological term.

“Personal” means you deal with someone person-to-person. Not necessarily face-to-face; you notice that everyone in the OT was pretty convinced that if they actually saw God in His glory, they would die. (Which is still probably true.) People in the NT saw Jesus in His glory, but before God was incarnate, He was sorta impossible to look upon.

But lots of them dealt with Him personally. They hung out with Him, talked to Him, He talked back, they obeyed Him, He blessed them, etc. Sometimes it was formal, ’cause He’s God after all, but not all the relationships were impersonal, only-thru-prophets or only-thru-priests or only-thru-intermediaries. Abraham, you recall, was called God’s friend. Enoch and Noah walked with Him. Jeremiah even complained that He wouldn’t shut up.

The trouble is how many people talk about Jesus as their “personal savior” yet have no personal relationship with Jesus at all. Their relationships are only-thru-scriptures or only-thru-pastors or only-thru-prophets or only-thru-books. They figure they’re saved because they said a sinner’s prayer, but they don’t know Him, and as He pointed out, at the End, He’ll have to admit He doesn’t know them either.

The veil being ripped is about not needing an intermediary to minister salvation. You don’t need a priest anymore; you are a priest, with Jesus as our High Priest. But people could always have personal relationships with God. We wouldn’t know as much as we do about Him otherwise.

Moses’s veil was used because he wasn’t glowing like a glow stick; he was as bright as the sun. You couldn’t look at him. A minute part of God’s residual glory is enough to do that. (You can see why people were so afraid to look at God.)
