Armour of God
All of us have or will hear of the Ephesians 6:11-18 scripture about the armour of God in our Christian life time.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
I remember a question I once received and it was how do we put on the armour of God daily? I have heard some people reply by “keeping busy” and or “pray, go to church and read bible“. While these do help, there is more to it than that. Lets explore first by establishing what the armour of God is:
- Loins Girt about with Truth: The truth is that the devil is defeated by Jesus. We have to wrap ourselves around with the truths of God and not the lies of the devil. The devil is the father of lies.
- Breastplate of Righteousness: God is our Saviour and through Jesus’ blood we are righteousness, it protects our heart and defend us from the accusations that the devil will try and condemn us with.
- The devil tries to bring up our previous sins but what we forget is that Jesus has already forgiven them and we cannot and will not be judged by them.
- Feet Shod with Gospel of Peace: Just as God promised Joshua that were ever he walks, God will give him, its the same for us. We can walk in the knowledge that no matter what happens God is on the throne and that there is peace as we walk with him.
- The footsteps poem is classic and helps explain the Feet Shod with Gospel of Peace.
- Shield of Faith: God is a miracle worker and no matter what happens, have the faith that God is bigger than your problems, he also never allows you to go through any temptation big enough you cannot handle (please note: Temptations are not given by God but from your fleshly desires).
- Helmet of Salvation: Do you ever doubt your salvation? Do you trust God? Does the devil play mind games with you? The knowledge that God has saved you will stop the enemy mess with your thoughts.
- Sword of the Spirit: This is your bible, hear is a great article which in detail explains the power of the word of God/ bible…
So how do we defeat the enemy/ devil?
Like most things in Christianity, we follow Jesus’ example. In Luke 4:1-13 the devil tempts Jesus and he defeated his lies, temptations and attacks by using his Armour of God.
- Used the sword of the Spirit to defeat him with the word of God “It is written..”,
- used his lions of truth to know that the devil is powerless through the power of God,
- used the Helmet of salvation to trust in God of his purpose and
- used his Breastplate of Righteousness to quench the attacks and lies of the devil.
