I remember when 90 Minutes in Heaven was first released in Christian book stores and the hype was huge! The hype imo is right as this indeed is a gripping read. As you can tell by the title, the book is about a man who died, went to heaven and then came back after 90 minutes.

What I like is that the book starts straight at the time of the car accident were he died and then through his experiences of heaven and recovering. This is great as it grabs your attention and demands you to read more.

The problem I find with biographies is that they tend to make the person into an immortal and (if a Christian book) into some HUGE hero of faith that no normal person could relate to. Don Piper does a smart thing not to allow this to happen by 1) He gets Cecil Murphey to help write it, and 2) He is honest.

What will shock many is that Don Piper was no BIG hero of faith, he was a sook and wanted to stay dead so he can go back to heaven BUT what follows is his realisation that Gods plans are bigger than his and once God humbles Don Piper enough God starts to use him and then he becomes a man God can use.

The process is the same as with us. God wants to use us but without humility and a sole dependency on God, He cannot use us.

Overall this was a great read and I would recommend it to anyone (whether you believe or are skeptical about heaven). It is honest, well written, not self glorifying and does not cram his view of religion down your throat.

This sounds great. A big reason I shy away from such religious texts, books, or preachings is that people usually try to force it on me, which is kind of the opposite point of religion (or Christianity in this case?) in the first place.

I also like how the book is humble and does not make themselves sound arrogant. I’ll be giving this a read.

all these type of stories are false. There has been a lot of analysis of near-death experiences that have legitimate psychological and medical explanations.

One big example of the fraud associated with these experiences is the example of a physician named Eby, who wrote one book describing his trip to heaven, and another one describing his trip to hell. This Dr. Eby said in his book about heaven,( and he was a favorite guest of the “Heresy broadcasting network” TBN), that Jesus Himself said that Eby must return to earth after walking the streets of heaven to go back to earth to tell everyone that His coming back to earth was very soon, and promised Dr. Eby, that he would not die until He (Jesus) returned for the Rapture. Well, of course another false prophet, and Eby is long gone now. It is these types of books that are a discredit to the truth of scripture.

You do raise a good point about people ‘making up’ their deaths etc. One of the arguments is that in the bible it says “Every man is once appointed to die…” but the counter argument is that Lazarus died and was risen from the death, 3 days later….
